Simple Potato Chips

Hello friends, hope all of you are safe and are staying at home. We are going through a challenging time these days due to COVID-19. Hope soon we will overcome the crisis.

Due to lockdown, we the homemakers have to change our regular cooking habits and have to compromise our cooking with limited ingredients. Our kids are also not getting their favourite snacks from outside easily. Hence I try to make some favourite snacks for my kids with the available ingredients from my kitchen. So I decided to make kid’s favourite potato Chips. And believe me, they are not so hard to make at home! My kids enjoyed the potato chips I made yesterday. They are very simple to make. Just need some potatoes, cooking oil, seasonings and most important ingredient” love”.

Ingredients

  • 2 big Potatoes
  • 2 cup cooking Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/4th teaspoon Garlic powder

Directions

Clean and wash potatoes nicely and slice them very thinly with skin on.

Note that slice them very thin with a slicer and dip in water. It is also necessary to slice uniformly.

Wash the sliced potatoes a number of times to remove the starch from the potatoes. You have to wash and rinse until you get clear water.

After cleaning soak the potato slices in ice cold water and salt for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes rinse again and spread the slices to a bowl or tray for 15 minutes to dry out.

In the meantime mix in 1/2 teaspoon of salt,1/2 teaspoon of chilli powder and 1/4th teaspoon of garlic powder. Your seasoning for chips is ready. You can make your favourite seasoning.

Heat sufficient oil in a pan and fry them in medium high heat for about 40-50 seconds. Flip the slices in between.

After 40-50 seconds the potato slices stop sizzling. That means they are fried well. Immediately remove from oil and keep in kitchen towel. Be sure not to overfry the chips. Remove as soon as soon they starts browning.

Repeat the process to fry all the chips. Sprinkle seasonings when the chips are still hot.

These chips are so tasty and crunchy that your kids will not miss the readymade packet chips.
